The Hoolux network uses cutting-edge hardware and software to show informative health & wellness content on screens in doctors’ waiting rooms and other points of care. The original content is automatically matched not only to the geographical location, but to the age, gender, ethnicity and mood of the individuals watching at the time.

Hoolux’s mission is to boost the health literacy of its viewers. Multiple studies show that better health literacy leads to better health. By taking advantage of what would otherwise be waiting-room downtime, the Hoolux network gives patients a ‘free lunch’ of accurate, informative content.

The field trial comprises 500 locations out of a total of 7,500 network partners.

“Initial reaction has been overwhelmingly positive,” says Hoolux CEO Ian Gallagher. “Our original content is going down well with doctors and patients alike, and the rollout has been very smooth from a technical standpoint.”

The full network is expected to go live by the end of the year.

Pharmageddon Is Over, Say Experts http://www.hooluxmedical.com/news/pharmageddon-is-over-say-experts/ http://www.hooluxmedical.com/news/pharmageddon-is-over-say-experts/#comments Fri, 20 Mar 2015 12:49:30 +0000 http://hooluxmedical.com/blog/?p=119 Bucking the 5-year trend in declining spends, healthcare marketing budgets have begun a spectacular resurgence.

All sectors are expected to grow, but point-of-care advertising in particular is flagged for enormous expansion.

But don’t just take our word for it.

Interpublic CEO Michael Roth says, “Health care is one [area] where we’re seeing strength; it was in a lull for a while as patents were expiring … [And] I think content is a very important part of what we’re doing.”

According to PR giant Edelman, “Health-related revenue increased more than 20% in the year ending last June.”

Kym White, Edelman’s Global Sector Chair of Health Business, puts it even more simply. “The pharma industry is roaring back from pharmageddon.”

And guess which unrivaled point-of-care advertising upstart is poised under the windfall? Hoolux, that’s who!

Hoolux Medical is ideally placed to benefit from a global pharma spend likely to approach $1.3 trillion by 2018. That’s an increase of about 30% compared to 2013. (Source: IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics)

Low Health Literacy Endangering Diabetes Sufferers http://www.hooluxmedical.com/news/low-health-literacy-endangering-diabetes-sufferers/ http://www.hooluxmedical.com/news/low-health-literacy-endangering-diabetes-sufferers/#comments Wed, 11 Mar 2015 12:48:47 +0000 http://hooluxmedical.com/blog/?p=123 Patients with type 2 diabetes may think they are healthier than they are because of poor health literacy, a new study suggests. And the mistaken belief that they are doing well could prevent them from properly managing their condition, further endangering their health.

The figures illustrate a telling relationship between health literacy levels and accurate self-assessment. 39% of all patients in the study believed that they were managing their diabetes well. But of those at 7th- or 8th-grade health literacy level, 59% believed their condition to be well-managed, and of those at 6th-grade level or below, the figure rose to 61%.

This is just one of many recent studies highlighting the link between better health literacy and better health. More literate patients are more adherent to pharmacy directions, more alert to warning signs, and more likely to attend check-ups and screenings.

Hoolux is dedicated to improving health literacy by providing targeted, informative, healthcare content through its point-of-care network.

Show Patients Their Medical Records, Ease Their Minds http://www.hooluxmedical.com/news/show-patients-their-medical-records-ease-their-minds/ http://www.hooluxmedical.com/news/show-patients-their-medical-records-ease-their-minds/#comments Mon, 02 Mar 2015 12:46:01 +0000 http://hooluxmedical.com/blog/?p=130 A small-scale study has suggested that giving patients access to their own medical records while in hospital could reduce their stress levels, help them to become more health literate, and even correct errors in the records.

The University of Colorado study gave tablet computers to 50 computer-literate inpatients and let them access their own records.

82% of the subjects felt that this access improved their understanding of their medical condition, and 60% felt it helped them to better understand their doctors’ instructions.

Also encouraging was the fact that the patients’ access to records did not increase the workload of their doctors and nurses, as was originally feared.

Further evidence that better health literacy leads to better health!
